Hello world, blog edition!

Hi guys, in case you're wondering, it has been almost a year since my last confession. Maybe not, but I need an excuse to test the functionality of a static site generator, and what better means than with an initial post.

Since the audience is fairly small, and the updates infrequent, you may be wondering why am I bothering to not only post the blog, but also create a static site generator when there are plenty of other choices out there? In short, my current website has had the core look and feel since 2007, and the updates are very few and far between. In addition, while I'd like to crack the whip on the blogging side, there are some things that are expected from a blog now that most people have descovered Jeckyll and Wordpress. While they'd do the job fairly well, there are a few things I'd like to integrate into the site that would extend beyond the default setup. Lastly, its been a while since I've done a smallish project for myself, and figured this is something that I'd be able to integrate elsewhere.

Without going into too many details, what I'm hoping to accomplish with this site is:

• A streamlined approach to posting thoughts with followup to a social site
• An easier mechanism for me to make blog posts with support for things like searching and date references
• A means to post and update project info for my personal/professional projects
• A website closer to this decade

I promise there will be a followup post in the form of a new project page describing this marvel of a project.

And in case you're wondering, yes, I will be opening this project up for review by the masses. Now whether this would be in the form of a github project to boost my employability, or on my site is up in the air, but you will find out about it eventually.
